Eastern Suburbs Coaches Corner

2010 Gold Coast Cup
The Gold Coast Cup is a Junior Football Competition started and still hosted by Mudgeeraba Soccer Club 14 years ago.
Eastern Suburbs F.C. has entered teams in this competition in the past but this is the first time for a few years that the club has taken part.
The nucleus of the Under 11 squad that took part came from our successful Division 2 South team and was supplemented by players from other local clubs who were not participating in the competition.
In the four matches played the team recorded a draw and three loses. In fairness, these results need to be viewed in the context of the quality of the opposition. In our group were the eventual winners (Runaway Bay), last year’s semi finalists (Bondi United) and this year’s winners of Brisbane South Division 1 and Brisbane West Division 1 (Brisbane Wolves and The Gap). The standout teams were Runaway Bay and Bondi United who, in the group stage, remained undefeated. The Gap, like ourselves, did not win a game, and, the Wolves only victory was against us.
The highlight of the tournament for us was a battling draw (0-0) with the Gap. Another commendable performance saw us restrict Bondi United to 5 goals in the final game thus effectively eliminating them from the competition on goal difference. Runway Bay qualified in their place with their 7-1 over the Gap.
A big thank you needs to go to Roy Sargent, whose original suggestion prompted our entry. The hard work he put in made the proposal an effective reality.
Another big thank you goes to the parents for their wonderful support throughout the week. A special thank you goes to Israel Rivera for providing the attached photos. To view the photos go to the Gallery page on the website.
Last, but not least a huge thank you to all the players who performed magnificently, after a very limited preparation, against teams of such high quality.
